Valerie Rose
| Valerie grew up singing folksongs in three-part harmony with her mother and sister. While in school she studied piano and violin, played in several Renaissance music ensembles, and performed at San Jose’s Center Stage as a solo folksinger. Later, after getting bitten by the Irish music bug, she formed "The Owner's Daughter" with guitarist Steve Baughman, and in 1993 the two released a CD to favorable reviews. She went on to play with Chris Caswell’s Celtic Light Orchestra, Bay Area folk band Peregryn, Djerdan with Yugoslav violinist Slavko Silic, and, most recently, with festival favorites Molly’s Revenge. She has also made guest appearances with Patrick Ball, Benita Kenn, and San Francisco’s Tipsy House. Her solo CD, Petals of Stone, successfully mixes Irish and English traditional ballads with hard-rock instrumentation. | ![]() |
Heather Washburn
| Heather (formerly Heather Winkle) began playing classical piano and flute as a child. She competed nationally and at age 10 was a featured piano soloist with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. After high school she spent a year on tour as a keyboardist, vocalist, and dancer, performing at Radio City Music Hall and other venues around the world. Years later she fell in love with the sound and style of the traditional wooden flute. She plays a flute by craftsman George Ormiston and whistles by craftsman Michael Burke. She has played with Bay Area musicians including Ed Johnson and Radim Zenkl. When she's not playing music, Heather works as a designer at a high-tech company in Silicon Valley and studies silversmithing. | ![]() |
